Tech mistake |The above Dgraph represents the Google Pixel sales share in Q2 2018, by region.

Till Q2 2018, Google had launched 3 Pixel devices – Google Pixel, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL – all were failed to capture a sizable share of the global smartphone market. In the year 2017, Google only shipped about 3.9 million units of the Pixel and Pixel 2 devices, globally, less than industry expectations.

According to Counterpoint Research

The sales of Google Pixel smartphones were driven by the US – a market that contributed to almost two-thirds of Pixel sales in 2Q18.

On October 9, 2018, Google has finally launched the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL all over the world, with various upgrades over their respective predecessors in terms of cameras, design, processor, and more.

After the US, Europe emerged as the biggest market for Pixel devices. About 26% of the total sales of Pixel devices came from Europe in Q2 2018. However, the big disappointment came in the form of APAC, which accounts for the lion’s share of smartphone sales every quarter. Google sold only fever than expected number of Pixel smartphones in the APAC region which eventually contributed just 8% to the global sales of Pixel smartphones in Q2 2018.

With the launch of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2018, Google apparently aiming to close the year with high nodes.

The overall sales of Pixel smartphones could be higher than the same duration last year. Reportedly, Google sold 1.95 million Pixel devices (Both generation 1 and 2) in Q4 2016 and little more than that in Q4 2017.

So far, Google has faced enough criticism for disappointing sales of Pixel Smartphones. Just to put things in perspective Apple took just 4 days to sell the equal number of smartphones that Google sold in 2017. However, few analysts believe that Google’s strategy behind launching Pixel smartphones can’t be measured by the sales figures. They believe that the core focus of Google with Pixel smartphones is on software, and to showcase the real capabilities of Android in the best hardware conditions.
